Using Storytelling to inform and generate impact is a technique we can employ to communicate sustainability. Stories have the power to generate emotions. As a practitioner, you can apply this power to create learning about sustainability that reaches more easily people in the company. Having acquired that learning, they will think about what it means to them and to the company.
There is no right formula for sharing stories that integrate sustainability into the business, but there are some key aspects to communicating sustainability through Storytelling.
  1. Think about how you can create opportunities for sustainability stories to be told and conveyed in your company.

  2. Share your own experiences related to sustainability and your short- and medium-term goals. Relate the achievement of a goal to its impact on society or the environment.

  3. Publicize the impact of your work. Communicate sustainability achievements by highlighting the work you have done and using specific data.

  4. Involve your community in your stories and ESG programs. Give company members a voice and invite them to share their experiences.

  5. Show the values and how the company works; the origin of your products, fair trade and sustainable agriculture policies, for example.

  6. Partner with causes related to the value of your brand and share it.
In short, it is important to align your company’s values with ESG proposals. The communication of these values in relation to sustainability will be what drives the company to generate a positive impact on society. Storytelling is a quick way to transmit and spread sustainability and, with it, move towards its integration in the company.
